Welcome to the Jerusalem Soul Center
Feb 25, 2007 at 09:16 AM

Welcome Friends! Image

You are about to enter the website of the Jerusalem Soul Center, a series of pages that document and update you on the many dynamic activities of the Soul Center.

The Jerusalem Soul Center was officially founded in 2007 with the intent of creating a dynamic space for religious and spiritual interaction here in Jerusalem at the heart of the Jewish people. It is an active and alternative space that continues to regularly host classes, concerts, Shabbat meals, visiting groups from abroad, family celebrations, and more. Neither a yeshiva nor a hostel, it is meant to be a gathering place for Jews of all backgrounds including religious, secular, tourists, native Israelis and new immigrants. While its activities have been based in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Centers events occur regularly throughout the greater Jerusalem area, and even extend to informative trips taken out into the rest of the country.

So who exactly is drawn to participate in our events? We are proud to host people of all ages, some of whom live permanently in Israel and others who during their various lengths of stay desire to strengthen their connection with the Land of Israel. Through our mutual concern for matters of Jewish identity and spirit, we are committed to endeavoring to deepen and root ourselves and those around us through the interactions that the Center engenders.

Spirituality is at the core of this journey and is our means for survival in a very intense physical world. The duality of an excited openness to the realities of the world around us, as well as the powerful desire to build focused Jewish lives (especially in the Land of Israel) is what pushes us to challenge and develop ourselves as individuals and as a community. Life is the ultimate university, and by expanding our networks and contacts, we are further strengthened in our efforts to navigate its daily challenges.

We are not defined by a singular discipline or movement. While our activities are conducted in accordance with Orthodox Jewish law, our space is of one of mutual respect and openness that draws people from all the different spectrums of Jewish experience. While the ideology is formed in large part by the various teachings of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, Rabbi Nahman of Breslov, and Rav Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook, we take pride in learning from so many inspiring teachers and figures, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. We believe that there are sparks of wisdom to be revealed in so many places, and the joy of life is found in revealing and basking in their light.

The Jerusalem Soul Center serves as a welcoming light for all who pass through its gates in this holy city that is the accepted spiritual center of the Jewish people. It is based on the ideal of fusing our beautiful Torah and its traditions with the stimulating reality that is our placement in a modern age, and for many of us, the chance to live in the re-born State of Israel.

Please join us in supporting this thriving, vibrant, and resourceful community based out of the Soul Center. Am Yisrael Chai!!

Looking forward to seeing all of you really soon in Jerusalem! Amen.
